JEWISH THOUGHT: THE PROMISED LAND

Home > Discussion List > JEWISH THOUGHT: THE PROMISED LAND

Dear Friends,

Just a reminder that I will be teaching a course during the first summer session on JEWISH THOUGHT: THE PROMISED LAND.  I had wanted to call the course THE LAND OF ISRAEL/PALESTINE IN JEWISH THOUGHT, and that gives you more of an idea of the content of the course, but the University demands shorter titles.

We will cover Jewish views on the Land of Israel from Biblical times to the present.  Topics include covenant; exile; the status of the land in Jewish law; Zionism, anti-Zionism, territorialism, and assimilationism.

Although I have some definite opinions on these subjects, the purpose of the course is to let the texts speak for themselves.

Course details:

HUMN 425V-011 (6269)
COLLOQUIUM (Seminar)
MoTuWeThFr 10:50 AM – 12:10 PM
JB Hunt Center of Academic Excellence, Room 0149
May 23, 2011 – July 1, 2011

I’ll be happy to talk to anyone who has questions.

All the best,

Rabbi Jacob
