Musical Shabbat Weekend with Rabbi Cantor John Kaplan

February 26-28

 

We are pleased to welcome Rabbi Cantor John Kaplan for an exciting weekend of music and learning!  The weekend’s events include:

Friday, February 26  
Musical Kabbalat Shabbat service – 7:30pm
The service will include a baby naming for Benjamin Arthur Zemke, son of Scott and Rivka Zemke and grandson of Sharon Berman. The service will be followed by an oneg sponsored by the family.

Saturday, February 27
Torah Study – 10am
Rabbi Cantor Kaplan will lead a discussion of this week’s Torah portion Ki Tisa – Exodus 30:11-34:35  –  Tablets, Golden Calf, and Covenant: Mediating the Relationship with God

Potluck dinner, Havdalah, and sing along – 6pm
Rabbi Cantor Kaplan will lead us in a sing along of familiar and new Jewish tunes, including favorites from Debbie FriedmanSunday, February 28
Religious School service – 10am

Rabbi Cantor Kaplan will lead religious school students in a short service before students break into their classes.


Rabbi Cantor Kaplan currently serves Congregation B’nai Israel in Jackson, TN and is Cantor Emeritus for Temple Israel in Memphis, TN. In addition to cantorial responsibilities, Rabbi Cantor Kaplan also has a background in officiating at life cycle events, adult education programs, and “congregational caring”, as well as experience on various non-profit boards.  Originally from Texas, he currently lives in Memphis, TN with his wife Linda.
