Closing Comments from an Outgoing Co-President – Part 1

For those of you not attending last Friday’s service (in person or virtually), Rabbi Cantor Sam Radwine led a beautiful and emotional service. It was emotional because it was the last service for Congregation Etz Chaim and they had a large number of members in attendance. Temple Shalom respects their amazing 17-year history and hopes their members will feel welcome for worship, remembering yahrzeits, celebrating life cycle events, attending religious school, and finding community at Temple Shalom.

As Etz Chaim has closed its doors, Temple Shalom has agreed to the responsibility of maintaining their Memorial Wall and recognizing the appropriate names for yahrzeits when we read names before Kaddish. It may take a couple of months to get these new names recorded in our database, but it will be done as soon as possible.

Temple Shalom’s Annual Meeting was held on June 2, both in-person and virtually. The results of the electronic election held after were unanimously in favor of our proposed 2022-2024 Board. Erin Cohen and Melissa Woods will share the leadership of the board and congregation. Debbie Deere and Rivka Zemke will serve second terms as secretary and treasurer. At Large board members elected include Ben Pollock, Mary Parker, and Kim Powers (second term). We had two 1-year At Large positions not filled at the time of the election. One has since been filled by Stanley Rest. If you are interested in the other At Large 1-year position, please email Erin Cohen.

It was announced that Rabbi Laura Lieber (daughter of Mike & Eileen Lieber) will be serving our congregation from October 2022 to May 2023. She will come once a month for a jam-packed weekend. Cantor Samantha (Sammi) Stinson will also lead services once a month. Lay leaders will continue to fill in the gaps. High Holiday services will be led by our dynamic Cantor Couple – Samantha and Jonathan Stinson. Members of the community will be asked to help with some service parts.

More on June 27…

L’Shalom,
Sharon
